The MTN CHAMPS Grand Final delivered a thrilling showcase of speed and talent in Ibadan on Wednesday, as athletes across junior and senior categories produced outstanding performances, including multiple personal and season’s bests.

The highlight of the day came in the senior men’s 100m final, where Chidera Ezeakor and Enich Adegoke could not be separated at the finish line. Both sprinters clocked an identical time of 10.15 seconds to share the title in a dramatic race. Chibueze Ezeakor followed in third place with a time of 10.35 seconds.

The intensity had been building from the heats, where Tejiri Godwin set the early pace with a personal best of 10.29 seconds, while Ezeakor and Adegoke also impressed with times of 10.31 seconds and 10.34 seconds respectively.

Reacting after the race, Adegoke expressed satisfaction with his performance, emphasizing that his focus was on improving his time rather than simply chasing victory.

In the women’s 100m final, Maria Omokwe stole the spotlight with a stunning run of 11.26 seconds — a personal best that matches the fastest time recorded in Nigeria this year. Her victory capped a consistent outing, having earlier posted 11.35 seconds in the semi-finals.

Janet Sunday finished second with a personal best of 11.66 seconds, while Omoyeni Lydia Ajayi-Bibilomo claimed third place in 11.69 seconds.

The junior categories also produced impressive performances. In the junior women’s 100m, Ejiro Peter secured victory with a time of 11.39 seconds, building on her semi-final personal best of 11.29 seconds. Chigozie Nwankwo came in second at 11.48 seconds, while Team MTN’s Lucy Nwankwo finished third in 11.57 seconds.

In the junior men’s 100m, Abdulrahman Jimoh raced to victory with a personal best of 10.57 seconds, ahead of Liberty Okon, who clocked 10.62 seconds. Alvin Onyeama of Team MTN completed the podium with a time of 10.66 seconds.

Beyond the sprints, the senior men’s 400m hurdles saw Ndiponke Okure, Sodiq Adebisi, and Olorunwa Olowu emerge as the top three finishers, while Oseiwe Salami claimed gold in the junior category with a time of 51.60 seconds, ahead of Ibrahim Muhammed and Solomon Eloghosa Okundaye.

With electrifying finishes and rising stars making their mark, the MTN CHAMPS Grand Final once again underscored its growing importance in shaping the future of athletics in Nigeria.
