With just four match weeks left in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), the 2024/25 season is entering its defining stretch.

The battle lines are clearly drawn — from the title race to the relegation fight — and the numbers tell a compelling story of how the campaign has unfolded so far.

After 340 matches played, fans have witnessed a season marked by resilience, late drama, and standout individual performances. A total of 663 goals have been scored, averaging 1.9 goals per game — a figure that reflects a league where defenses have often held firm, but decisive moments still emerge.

Home advantage has proven crucial for several sides. Rangers, Ikorodu City, and El-Kanemi Warriors remain unbeaten on their home turf, underlining their dominance in front of their supporters. Meanwhile, away victories have not been rare, with 39 recorded so far — a sign of growing competitiveness across the league.

Ikorodu City have been one of the season’s most intriguing teams. While they boast the league’s top scorer, Joseph Arumala, with 12 goals, and the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets, Michael Atata (16), they also hold an unusual defensive record — conceding 4 or more goals in the second half more than any other side. It’s a contrast that perfectly captures the unpredictability of their campaign.

At the other end of the pitch, Enyimba have made a habit of late heroics, scoring 10 goals in the final 10 minutes of matches — more than any other team. Their ability to finish strong could yet prove decisive in the closing weeks.

Midfield creativity has been spearheaded by 3SC’s Ayobami Abiodun Junior, whose 11 assists set the benchmark across the league. In defense, Rangers’ Chidozie Iwundu stands out with 8 goals, making him the highest-scoring defender so far — a remarkable contribution from the backline.

Early intensity has also played a role this season. Nasarawa United lead the way with 7 goals scored in the opening 15 minutes of matches, showing their intent to strike fast and unsettle opponents early.

In terms of attacking spectacle, the eight-goal thriller between Wikki Tourists and Katsina United (4-4) remains the highest-scoring match of the season — a reminder of the excitement the NPFL can deliver on its day.

Bendel Insurance and Rangers have set the pace in first-half attacking output, each netting 24 goals before the break — highlighting their aggressive starts to games.

On the road, Abia Warriors have been the most successful travelers, accumulating 16 away points — a crucial factor in their overall standing.

As the season approaches its climax, these numbers not only highlight standout performances but also hint at what lies ahead. With the title race tightening and survival battles intensifying, every goal, assist, and clean sheet will matter more than ever.

The final four match weeks promise drama — and if the numbers so far are anything to go by, the NPFL is set for a thrilling finish.
