Suspend My Pension Now, Former Ogun State Governor, OGD Tells State Government

Former Governor of Ogun state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel is requesting Governor Dapo Abiodun MFR, CON to stop his (Gbenga Daniel) monthly pension.

In a letter dated June 14, 2023, former Governor Daniel wrote notifying the governor of his decision to have the monthly payment of N676,376.95 kobo being gross payment for his pension and allowances as former governor of the Ogun State suspended immediately.

The reason the former governor gave is in compliance "with my conscience , moral principle and ethical code against double emoluments that a serving senator of the federal republic of Nigeria who hitherto was a former state Governor shall not be entitled to the payments of pensions and allowances from such state"

Former Governor Daniel was elected to represent Ogun East senatorial district at the March national assembly elections and was the Executive Governor of Ogun State from 2003-2011.

The letter which was published on the governor's personal social media handles also revealed that since he left office in 2011 he has not benefitted from any welfare packages be it medical, furniture or transportation.

This move by Senator Daniel may put pressure on his former colleagues governors who have been elected into the senate to do same.
