Rivers Update: Police Seal LG Secretariats As Gov. Fubara Swear-In CTC Chairmen

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has sworn-in Caretaker Committee Chairmen for the 23 Local Government Councils of the State.

The swearing-in ceremony was performed at the Executive Council Chambers of Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

This is sequel to their screening and confirmation by the State House of Assembly at its sitting on Wednesday.

The Police in Rivers State late Tuesday announced that they have taken over all the 23 Council Secretariats and some critical government infrastructure to forestall more bloodshed and prevent a further breakdown of law and order.

Clashes between supporters of the two political factions over the tenure of Local Government Chairmen led to the death of a Police officer and a member of a vigilance group in OMUMA local government.

In a statement on Tuesday night, the police spokesperson, GRACE IRINGE-KOKO said both conventional police and anti-riot police officers have been deployed across the state.

Many of the outgoing elected officials were elected when Mr Wike was governor and are loyal to him. They have vowed to stay on in office, saying the state House of Assembly had extended their tenure by six months.
