Reinstated Plateau Speaker Preside Over Plenary

The reinstated speaker of the plateau state House of Assembly assumed over office on Tuesday and presided over plenary 18- months after he was impeached as Speaker



Justice Nafisat Lawal Musa of the State High Court Sitting in Jos, on Monday reinstated Abok Ayuba as Speaker, Plateau House of Assembly 18 months after he was impeached by some members of the House.


Dissatisfied with the Process, two members of the house approached the court where they sought among other things, a declaration that the sitting of the Plateau State House of Assembly on Thursday the 28!h day of October, 2021 between the hours of 6 am and 7 am is un-parliamentary and in violation of the provision of Order 6 Rule of the Plateau State house of Assembly Rules 2021 and therefore unlawful, null and void.


Hon. Ayuba, who presided over plenary for the first time since his impeachment on Oct. 28, 2021, appreciated his colleagues for their stand in defence of democracy.


Mr Livinus Kwapfan (APC/Shendam Constituency) said that the APC caucus in the assembly resolved that they were going to obey the rule of law.


During the plenary, a bill for a law to establish Plateau Social Investment and Related Matters passed third reading.


The bill sponsored by Mr Nanbol Daniel (PDP/Langtang North Central) is aimed at improving the social wellbeing of Plateau citizens.


Nine Members of the 24-member house of Assembly were present during plenary on Tuesday.


Plenary was adjourned to Wednesday the 5 April.
