President Bola Tinubu has announced plans to visit Benue State on Wednesday to condole with residents affected by a recent wave of deadly violence.

Over 200 persons have been killed in the Last few weeks.

This decision follows criticism from opposition leaders Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who expressed concern over the president’s delayed response to the crisis. They faulted him for not visiting the state earlier, despite ongoing attacks that have claimed numerous lives.

Benue, located in Nigeria’s North Central region, has faced relentless assaults believed to be carried out by suspected herdsmen. The conflict, which has persisted for years, is often attributed to tensions over land between indigenous farming communities and nomadic herders.

In recent weeks, the violence has escalated, with reports confirming the deaths of several people in multiple communities.

The attacks have devastated the predominantly agrarian state, which plays a key role in Nigeria’s food production.
