Handball Nations Cup: Nigeria May Qualify for Quarter Finals

Nigeria women handball team is on the verge of qualifying for the next round of the African Women's Handball Championship.

Nigeria, making a first appearance in this Championship since 1994, earned a 26-21 win over newcomers Kenya after a tight first half had seen them go in with only a 12-11 lead.

Their first win gives them a chance of progressing as one of the two best-placed teams finishing third.

This arrangement follows the late withdrawal from the tournament of Algeria.

Trailing 12-11 at the interval, Kenya lost their third consecutive match at the Africa Women's Handball Championship on Saturday 12 June 2021.

The result sees Kenya finish bottom of the group.

They will play Madagascar in a 9th-11th place semifinal fixture on Monday 14 June.

The final matches in Group A and Group C are due to take place tomorrow.
