Egypt Football Legend Mohamed Aboutrika To remain On Terror List

Al Ahly and Egypt legend Mohamed Aboutrika’s appeal to get removed from the terror list has been revoked by the Egyptian Court of Cassation.

Aboutrika was first placed on the country’s terror list after he was accused of financially supporting the banned Muslim Brotherhood group.

All people included on the list are subject to a travel ban and face having their passport and assets frozen.

As a result, Aboutrika has kept residence in Qatar while working for the beIN Sports satellite channel.

In addition, some of his assets were frozen by the government in 2015, a mere two years after retiring from his playing career. The decision was, however, overturned in June 2016.

Aboutrika had filed an appeal against Cairo Criminal Court’s decision in 2017, which was initially approved and he was removed from the terror list.

However, the decision was overturned, which made Aboutrika appeal against the decision once again; and now his appeal was turned down.
