A governorship aspirant under the People's Democratic Party, Sunday Garba Biggs, has formally declared his intention to contest for the top office in Plateau State, outlining a broad vision focused on security, economic growth, and inclusive governance.

Biggs made the declaration during a public address to party stakeholders, supporters, and community leaders, describing his ambition as a response to the growing need for effective leadership and renewed direction in the state.

The former Permanent Secretary in the Plateau State Government House recently defected from the All Progressives Congress, citing what he described as a “constricted” political space and ongoing realignments within the party. His move to the PDP, he said, was driven by the desire to pursue his political aspirations on a platform aligned with his vision.

Biggs is not new to the governorship race, having previously contested as an aspirant in the APC primaries ahead of the 2023 election. The contest was eventually won by Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who emerged as the party’s candidate at the time.

With a long career in the civil service, Biggs served in key roles including Director of Protocol and Permanent Secretary for Special Duties and Inter-government Affairs, working under three successive governors. He said these experiences have provided him with firsthand knowledge of governance and the challenges facing Plateau State.

According to him, his campaign—popularly known as “#BiggThingsComing”—is built on leveraging his administrative experience to “re-engineer” the state and unlock its full potential.

He noted that despite being richly endowed with natural resources and a hardworking population, Plateau State continues to grapple with insecurity, unemployment, and inadequate infrastructure.

“This is not the Plateau of our dreams,” Biggs said, calling for a new leadership approach that prioritizes the welfare of citizens and strengthens public institutions.

Outlining his agenda, the aspirant pledged to improve security, create jobs through agriculture and small business development, and attract investment to drive economic growth across the state.

He also promised to invest in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, while promoting unity and inclusive governance across ethnic and religious divides.

Biggs called on members of the PDP to remain united ahead of future elections, while urging youths, women, and other stakeholders to actively participate in shaping the future of the state. He emphasized that with collective support, Plateau State can achieve peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.

There was a large crowd who turned out to welcome the politician amidst fanfare in a carnival like atmosphere.

The party chairman later presented Mr Sunday Biggs to the people of Mangu and Plateau State for the 2023 governorship election.
