The Nigerian Correctional Service says, 17 of the 262 inmates of the Jos Custodial center who escaped from the center after the facility was attacked by armed gunmen on Sunday have been recaptured.
The Deputy Controller- General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Charge of Operations, Tukur Ahmed Muhammed gave the update at the Jos custodial center after an assessment visit on Tuesday.
On Monday, the Nigerian Correctional Service said some of the attackers and a total of 262 inmates escaped in the melee beforè reinforcement could come from sister services.
However, 10 were recaptured, leaving 252 at large.
Asked why there are no CCTV cameras installed at the Medium Security Custodial Center, the Deputy Controller genevral blamed it on the paucity of funds.
No arrests have been made so far as investigations to uncover the identities of those behind the attack on the facility is ongoing.
