The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) has announced a new debt validation and discount initiative aimed at assisting indebted customers in settling their outstanding electricity bills.

In a statement released Thursday in Jos, the Acting Head of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Saratu Daudu, disclosed that the initiative was unveiled by JEDC’s Managing Director, Alhaji Mammanlafia Umar, during the company’s quarterly Customer Consultative Forum held on Wednesday. Umar was represented at the event by the company’s Chief Technical Officer, Mr. Hamisu Jigawa.
According to Umar, the initiative offers flexible payment options with significant discounts designed to ease the financial burden on customers. Customers who clear their debts in full will benefit from a 30% discount, while those opting for installment payments will receive a 25% discount. The promo runs until June 30 and requires debt validation at JEDC offices prior to payment.
“This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to support our customers financially while ensuring sustainable service delivery,” Umar stated.
In a bid to enhance billing efficiency and customer communication, JEDC has also introduced a WhatsApp Bill Distribution System, a technology-driven approach that delivers electricity bills in a visually engaging format directly to customers via WhatsApp. Customers interested in the service are required to upload their contact details through a designated link on the company’s official website.
Umar further urged property owners to routinely monitor their tenants’ bill payments, noting that electricity accounts are associated with properties, not individual occupants.
He also reiterated the company’s dedication to combating energy theft and called on customers to collaborate with JEDC by reporting illegal activities. He emphasized the company’s whistle-blowing policy, which offers incentives to individuals who provide credible information on energy theft.
"JEDC remains committed to strengthening customer engagement and fostering transparency across all operational touchpoints," Umar added.
