Under the guise of protests, the Nigerian public space was dominated by four sets of characters, each with its own unique incentive and motivation for the protest.
First, those that came out to genuinely protest due to concerns about the state of the economy that is under siege by inflation , poverty, and hunger, who felt it's within their constitutional right to agitate for better living conditions.
The second are those protesting against the protesters. For them, Nigerians should be patient with the Tinubu Administration because the government means well for the national economy and Nigerians.
The situation on ground is a build up of years of governance failure in terms of state responsibility to protect citizens and provide for their needs.
The third are criminal elements who took advantage of the situation created by the protests (either for or against), to loot public and private property.
The fourth, are those who had nothing at stake, other than to be unruly in their perpetration of chaos and anarchy. Unfortunately, it’s difficult for government to clinically delineate and uncover these characters.
