#EndSars: Plateau Police Panel Recommends ₦152m For Victims

The Special Investigative Panel on Police Brutality set up by the Plateau State government has submitted its final report.



The Panel which was set by the Governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong was to among other things examine cases of Police brutality, human rights violations, and extrajudicial killings.

The pnael was also expected to evaluate evidence and draw conclusions on the validity of complaints; as well as recommend compensation and other remedial measures.


As part of the June 12 democracy day activities in Plateau state, the Panel submitted its final report.


while submitting the final report of the panel to Governor Lalong, Chairman of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality and Other Related Extra Judicial Killings in Plateau state, Mrs. Philomena Lot, said a total of One Hundred and Fifty - Two million naira, (N152,000,000:00) was recommended as compensation for the families of petitioners.


The Chairman of the Panel said careful implementation of their recommendations, especially payment of damages to victims is crucial in dousing tensions.

Responding, Governor Lalong promised that all recommendations of the the Panel that relates to the state government will be implemented, while others that require the intervention of the federal government due to constitutional provisions will be forwarded accordingly.


Gov. Simon Lalong also decried the use of social media in threatening Nigeria’s democracy.

He said some Nigerians were using the social media to propagate their personal interests at the detriment of upholding the democratic values of Nigeria.

Other members of the are Special Investigative Panel on Police Brutality include, CP. Garba Patrick (Rtd); Ezekiel Dauda Daschen (Youth Representative, Rauta Dakok (Rep. of Attorney General’s Office); Kiyempia Mafuyai (Rep. of Human Rights Commission) while the civil society is to be represented by John Jinung and Fatimah Suleiman.
