Chief of Defense Staff In Jos, Clarifies OPSH And GOC's Appointment

The Chief of Defence staff, General Lucky Irabor has clarified why the operation safe haven and three division, Nigerian Army has one commander.

The appointment of a single commander for the operation safe haven and the three division of the Nigerian Army in July 2021, had come under serious criticisms by a section of Plateau residents following a spike in violence attacks and killings in the state.

Before now, the 3 division and the OPSH had separate commanders.

General Irabor while meeting with Governor Lalong at the Rayfield Government house on Wednesday said, he authorized the new arrangement because Jos, had enjoyed relative peace in recent times and felt a need to streamline the operational procedure of the OPSH and the 3 division, hence the single commander.

Commenting on the latest attacks and killings in the state, General Irabor said, only plateau people can champion the cause of peace in Plateau state, while the military will create the enabling environment for peace to reign.

Governor Lalong had commended the army for the work they do, expressing his concerns over the latest breach in the peace of the state, despite his many peace interventions in the last six years.
